The Temperament of Memory A play based on the life of William Somerset Maugham and his famous novel Of Human Bondage. In 1955, on the 40th anniversary of the publication, an 82 year-old Maugham struggles to record the autobiographical novel for an American publishing company. In 1913 London, Maugham, obsessed with memories of his past life, leaves his successful career as a playwright and long time lover to work on the novel which will make him one of the world's most popular writers, but at a price. 1890's Paris, club-footed Philip Carey arrives in the city with hopes of becoming a great artist and meets the androgynous Mildred with whom he begins a painful love affair. All three have a profound affect on one young sound technician with aspirations of becoming a writer. 5 m & 4 f |
